POSITION SUMMARY
Willamette University School of Law invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Law to teach two sections of Lawyering, beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. This position is on a long-term contract track consistent with ABA Standard 405(c).
We seek candidates who are passionate about teaching legal research, writing, analysis, and advocacy, and who are committed to preparing students for the professional demands of legal practice. The Lawyering program develops students’ foundational legal research, analysis, and writing skills while also cultivating the professional habits essential to success in law school and legal practice. Students learn objective and persuasive writing, oral advocacy, and are introduced to other modes of legal communication, including client interviewing and counseling. While the initial course package is two sections of lawyering in each annual semester, there may also be the need for a successful candidate to teach in summer or during the term in doctrinal, skills, and/or academic success courses.
The Long Term Contract track requires maintaining excellence in teaching, service, and an active program of professional growth, but does not require scholarship. Assistant Professors of Law on the LTC track have faculty voting rights (on everything but the appointment and promotion of tenure-track faculty. LTC track faculty are eligible to seek professional development funds and summer writing grants consistent with policies applicable to all faculty.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of significance:
- Teach two sections of Lawyering per semester, which includes providing classroom instruction, timely written feedback on assignments, and individual academic counseling on progress towards course learning objectives.
- Where needed, and as agreed to with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, teach alternative doctrinal, academic success, or skills courses in substitution for one of the lawyering sections.
- Work closely with students while maintaining professionalism and appropriate demeanor that encourages learning.
- Work with staff in order to address issues of student support and concern connected with classroom instruction.
- Engage in committee and other service to the law school, including participation in student, faculty, and schoolwide activities (such as committee meetings, colloquia, workshops, lectures, and occasional other meetings) in a manner consistent with the position.
- Other duties as assigned in cooperation with the administration of the College of Law.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school required.
- Experience: Experience as a licensed attorney in the practice of law that involved the preparation and editing of high-quality legal work product.
- Computer skills: Proficient in the use of computers for word processing and electronic communication. Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software. Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive issues.
- Ability to exercise good professional judgment in an academic setting.

Typical Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm

POSITION SUMMARY The Head Coach of Women’s Triathlon directs all areas associated with the women's triathlon program including practice and competition preparation, student-athlete support and budget management. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Directs and coordinates all required aspects of the women's triathlon program, serving as head coach. Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, including counseling team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters. Prepares and manages program budget, including purchasing of equipment and other supplies as needed. Makes team travel arrangements including accommodations, transportation and meals. Observes all conference, NCAA and university rules and regulations. Schedules competitions and practices within university, USA Triathlon and NCAA Division III guidelines. Teaches the fundamental principles and techniques of triathlon (i.e. competition, traditions and sportsmanship) as well as the philosophy of the sport. Is proactive in all matters pertaining to safety among staff and participants. Represents the department and university in public relations efforts. Participates in department and Division planning and staff meetings, representing the women's triathlon program and/or Willamette athletic department as needed. Cooperate with all coaches and administrative staff within the athletics program to enhance overall department operation and student-athlete experience. Additional administrative responsibilities and duties will be assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Two years’ experience coaching high school, club or college triathlon. Knowledge of all applicable rules as they apply to triathlon. Ability to successfully articulate the values of a liberal arts education and the role intercollegiate athletics plays in the development of student athletes. Possess strong leadership, organizational, communication and management skills; serves as a role model for student-athletes. Ability to effectively teach and coach students in both an individual and team setting. Must demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills and must be able to work effectively with staff, faculty and other members of the university. Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing, including the ability to communicate instructions pertaining to athletic matters in an athletic coaching setting. Ability to execute those physical activities required to perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of and ability to use computers and a variety of software applications. Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays the university and its programs, personnel, and philosophies. Must possess a current driver’s license valid in the state of Oregon or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire date and satisfactory driving record insurable by the University’s insurer. POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Licensure at Willamette Law advances the law school’s commitment to student success by supporting law students and recent graduates as they transition from law school to fully-licensed attorneys, with a focus on helping students to develop the academic, professional, and personal skills necessary for success in law school, on the bar exam, and in the practice of law. The school’s Academic Support and Bar Preparation program provides comprehensive support through workshops, courses, small-group programming, and individualized coaching. The Director will play a central role in designing and delivering programming that meets students’ evolving needs, with a focus on students who may encounter barriers to bar passage. The Director will cooperate with internal personnel and external institutional partners in the bar preparation and licensure spaces. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work closely with the Dean and Associate Deans to redesign and implement the Law School’s bar preparation and licensure support program. Work with institutional commercial provider of bar preparation and academic success services to ensure students and graduates are taking full advantage of resources and support opportunities. Assist with development and support of academic support programs in order to improve student readiness for licensure success. Develop and present skills-based workshops and information sessions relating to licensure, bar readiness and preparation, and general academic success. Organize and maintain faculty bar mentor program and coordinate other faculty licensure support events and opportunities. Provide individual academic and licensure counseling and coaching for students and graduates, with a particular emphasis on students preparing for the bar exam as well as at-risk students. Offer tailored feedback on analytical writing, learning strategies, and test-taking approaches. Support students in planning for and navigating the transition from law school to bar study and/or other pathways to full licensure. Work with students, Professional Responsibility faculty, and institutional commercial provider to support students as they prepare for the MPRE. Lead February and summer bar exam preparation support program; work with faculty and staff to support students throughout the bar preparation period. Coordinate bar exam day logistics with Oregon State Bar. Collect, track, and analyze data related to academic support engagement, bar prep, and bar passage / licensure outcomes; prepare ABA Bar Questionnaire for completion on an annual basis. Maintain student records regarding licensure and bar passage. Prepare reports and recommendations to inform faculty, staff, and administration about program impact and student outcomes. Teach substantive bar exam, licensure support, and, as needed, academic support courses. Work with Office of Career Planning and Development to develop support for position-based alternative pathways to licensure, such as Oregon’s Supervised Practice Pathway Examination. Remain current on best practices, pedagogy, and trends in academic success, bar preparation, licensure, and legal education reform, including on the NextGen Bar Exam and alternative pathways in Oregon and other states. Serve as the law school’s point of contact with state, national, and other licensure and bar preparation and support entities. In cooperation with the Dean and other staff and faculty, identify, apply for, and implement grant-based or other funding opportunities to support core responsibilities. Where appropriate, assist with other Law School assessment and academic support work. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned throughout the law school by the Dean. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Professional experience in the practice of law. Demonstrated interest in academic support, bar preparation, teaching, or equivalent professional legal practice/training. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to encourage, motivate, and support diverse student populations. Proven organizational and project management skills. Familiarity with the Uniform Bar Exam and emerging NextGen Bar Exam. Commitment to working with students from varied backgrounds, including those with diverse learning styles and abilities. Demonstrated proficiency with educational technology and a willingness to adopt new tools. Familiarity with, or ability to learn, software systems necessary for student record maintenance and tracking. Preferred Prior law school academic support and/or bar preparation experience. Two years of experience in the practice of law. Experience teaching in higher education. Knowledge of learning theory and evidence-based strategies for legal education.
