Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with possession of a current, unencumbered Oregon State Licensed Practical Nurse License or graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a nationally recognized certification such as AAMA, NCCT, or AMT. Current CPR certification. Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in providing patient care. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in medical record documentation and recording test results. Ability to utilize computer programs expected for patient care and the ability to type at least 30 wpm. Essential Functions: Perform general rooming duties during patient visits. Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with Salem Clinic standards. Assist with the preparation of equipment and aid medical provider during treatments, examination, and testing of patients. Observe, record, and report to the physician information relating to the patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments. Maintain timely flow of patients throughout the day. Greet patients and prepare them for physical examination. Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests. Arrange for patient testing and admissions. Respond to and refer incoming telephone calls. Instruct patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions. Record tests and examination results. Have a thorough understanding of the nursing department workflows related to the Quality Metrics that the clinic is responsible for reporting on. Provide education/information to patients regarding required testing to be done (e.g. Fit Kit testing). Prepare exam rooms and treatment rooms with necessary supplies and equipment. Maintain patient confidentiality. Serve as a clinical resource person for medical assistants. Adhere to safe principles of lifting, patient transfer, and ergonomics. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. Assist in departmental duties and non patient care assignments Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested. May act as a preceptor for orientation of new staff/students. May order and maintain clinical and office supplies and equipment. Place follow up phone calls to patients as requested by provider to relay test results and/or need for further testing. Conduct clinic services such as pulse oximetry, vision testing, diabetic retinopathy screening, etc. Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Record pertinent patient information. Have a thorough understanding of the workflows related to the Quality Metrics. Provide education/information to patients regarding required testing to be done (e.g. Fit Kit testing). Communicate with Care Team Assistant (CTA) and assist with scrubbing charts. Ensure that all in-basket messages are addressed within a timely manner. (Urgent messages ASAP but no longer than 24 hrs. All other messages within 48 hrs). Set-up for and assist provider with all procedures. Communicate clearly with team and support staff of practice needs. Delegate PRN.
